Gradability Accelerator Plus Program

Gain Essential Skills and Real-World Experience Employers Are Looking For
We asked one of our students:

What were the 3 highlights
of your internship?

The internship helped me develop technical skills specific to my field as well as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management abilities. It has significantly boosted my confidence in my abilities, making me feel more prepared for full-time employment. Moreover, internships often lead to job offers, either with the host company or through the connections I’ve made during the experience.

Abbiguel Charine Santoso, GAP Program Graduate

FAQ
How do I find internships in Australia?

There are various methods to find internships in Australia. You can begin by exploring online job boards, career websites, and platforms dedicated to internships. Additionally, your university’s career centre can be a valuable resource, and attending career fairs where companies recruit interns can be beneficial. Networking with professionals in your field may also lead to internship opportunities. Alternatively, you can apply for a placement program with Gradability, where we provide the placement and support you need.

When should I start looking for internships in Australia?

It’s advisable to begin your search for internships several months ahead of your desired start date, as the application process can be lengthy. Many companies start recruiting interns about 3-6 months in advance. Starting early enhances your chances of securing a suitable position. At Gradability, it typically takes around 4-8 weeks to find a placement for you.

Are there any specific visa requirements for international students doing internships in Australia?

Yes, international students must have the appropriate visa to undertake an internship in Australia. The most common visa for this purpose is the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) for recent graduates. However, specific visa requirements can vary based on factors such as the duration of the internship, the student’s current visa status, and the sponsoring company. It’s crucial to check the Australian Department of Home Affairs website or consult with an immigration professional for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

What documents do I need to apply for internships in Australia?

The required documents may vary depending on the company or organisation. Generally, you will need a well-prepared resume (CV), a cover letter expressing your interest in the internship, academic transcripts, and references. Some companies may also request a portfolio or samples of your work, especially for creative or technical roles.

Can internships in Australia lead to full-time job opportunities?

Yes, internships in Australia can often lead to full-time job opportunities. Many companies use internships to identify potential talent and may offer permanent positions to outstanding interns. It’s important to make a positive impression during your internship and demonstrate your skills and work ethic to enhance your chances of being considered for a full-time role. At Gradability, 40% of our interns have been offered paid positions with their Host Company.

Are internships paid in Australia?

The nature and compensation of internships can vary depending on the company and industry. At Gradability, our unpaid internships are designed to provide practical training in a real working environment. While you won’t be considered an employee, you’ll have the chance to learn valuable skills and gain experience. We work diligently to ensure your internship is meaningful and equitable, with the host company investing time and resources to offer a valuable learning experience.
